US State department reacts to the recent presidential pardon

The US State department has raised concerns over the recent presidential pardon accorded to Staff Sgt. Sunil Rathnayake. The US State Department wrote on Twitter “The Pardon of Sunil Rathnayake after SL’s Supreme Court upheld his conviction is deeply troubling. Justice, accountability, and reconciliation, are needed for long term peace.”
